Mission Board Report 2010-2011
Through the generous support of the congregation, we have been able to support many local and global charitable agencies. This has been accomplished through your annual mission pledges, pew envelopes and mission board requests throughout the year.
During July we collected school supplies for Coventry Human Services.
Our Crop Walk in October included 16 walkers and raised $1,608 in sponsored pledges. We partnered with Second Church again. Pastor Jim and the confirmation class participated in the walk too. CROP walks (Communities Responding to Overcome Poverties) are community-wide events sponsored by Church World Service raising funds and awareness to combat hunger at home and around the world. Special thanks go to Robin Carlson who volunteered as treasurer this event and the Coventry Fire Dept.
Our October coat collection for WAIM (Windham Area Interfaith Agency) totaled 104 coats and sweaters. WAIM distributes to all the local agencies in need.
Our Teens and Tots annual giving appeal in November to the Department of Children and Families provided 30 plus toys and games to children for Christmas, along with many handmade scarves, hats, etc. left over from our Church Fair.
In February we had a Heart Theme “Blanket the World with Love” campaign for Church World Service. The congregation was encouraged to donate $5 for a CWS Blanket and in turn make a Card. We raised enough money for 26 blankets ($130)
We gave the Congregation the opportunity to support the UCC’s Wider Missions to feed the hungry, respond to disasters, send help around the world, reach out to our neighbors and care for children through Basic support, One Great Hour of Sharing, Strengthen the Church, Neighbors in Need and The Christmas Fund.
